PortalF1's Coverage Q&A

Written by Alex Norton - No comments

We've been publishing under our new name for almost a month now, and although the change initially confused some of our users, the feedback has been largely positive - and most importantly, the service has remained (in our humble opinion) as good as ever. With a new season fast approaching, we're ready to unveil our plans for our fourth year covering Formula One.

Where can I follow PortalF1 in 2012?

You can follow us in three ways: our Twitter feed, our soon to be relaunched Facebook page and our website, PortalF1.com. Don't forget to check out our forum. Watch this space for more developments...

Will I be able to follow the new car launches on PortalF1?

Yes. The confirmed launch dates are all visible on our website. We will be tweeting pictures of all eleven remaining new cars as they are revealed, and the corresponding reaction will appear in your timeline as it becomes available. At the end of the day, we'll post a comprehensive gallery of each launch on our website, so that you get the very best view of every new challenger.

What about testing? Will you be covering that, too?

There are four tests this year, three before the new season and one during it. You can find the precise dates on our website. Before each test, we'll be publishing a comprehensive preview of the event - and after its conclusion, there'll be in-depth analysis of what we've learnt on PortalF1.com. The best images will also be available in the gallery. Over on Twitter, we'll tell you who's running and what time things kick off each morning of every test. During the day we'll have periodic updates of the key events at the track, and in the evening the full results will be published across all of our platforms. Pretty good, no?

That's great. But what about those all important races?

We're approaching things a bit differently this year. We believe that the vast majority of our followers have access to quality television or radio coverage. Therefore, we're focusing more on other aspects of our package.

On PortalF1.com, our comprehensive race preview will be available on the eve of the race. We'll also have short summaries of the action at the end of each day's running. The usual photos and results will be available throughout the weekend. On Friday, the results from every practice session will be available on every platform, including Twitter. On Saturday we will bring you the times from all three qualifying sessions as the chequered flag falls on each. On Sunday we will take to Twitter to update you as to the grid, the weather and the championship standings before providing updates on key on-track events at various points during the race itself. The final result and updated title standings will be published across all platforms as soon as the race ends.

What about your brilliant post-race analysis?

Don't worry, it's here to stay. However, our post-race analysis will now be known as 'The Inlap' and arrive on PortalF1.com on the Monday morning following the race.

All the usual features will be back, including the hilarious trophies formerly known as the F1Lite Awards, and the statistical destruction that is F1 Wars. We'll have quotes from all the key figures (including all ten scoring drivers) and quite a bit of reaction from the fans too. The removal of the hundred and forty character limit and time constrains means we'll put together a much better package to brighten up the first day of the working week.

Anything else to tell us?

We're aiming to put out a minimum of one hundred analytical blogs this year, and we have established media links with the teams to make sure this is carried out to the highest standard. In addition, we're working closely with Darren Kenny and the rest of the team at PortalF1 to bring you some really innovative new features soon - but our lips are sealed, for the time being.

So in conclusion...

With six world champions scrapping for supremacy, you don't want to miss this - and now you've got the basic details of our coverage, you can rely on us to provide to provide news, reaction, analysis, pictures, videos and a whole host of other treats to keep you up to date with the world's fastest sport. What we've revealed today is hopefully just the start of something much bigger. And if you're still sceptical - stick with us, and give it a chance. We're confident that it's going to be a great season.
