Past Winners 2012

Germany:
Fernando Alonso, Ferrari
Britain: Mark Webber, Red Bull
Europe: Fernando Alonso, Ferrari
Canada: Lewis Hamilton, McLaren
Monaco: Mark Webber, Red Bull

Past Winners Hungary

2011:
Jenson Button, McLaren
2010: Mark Webber, Red Bull
2009: Lewis Hamilton, McLaren
2008: Heikki Kovalainen, McLaren
2007: Lewis Hamilton, McLaren

The Hungarian Grand Prix is a decisive point in the season, the final round before a four week summer break. During that break, there's a two week period in which there can be no work-related interactions between team members at all. Seizing a development advantage now is therefore vital to all the teams heading into the second half of the season.

With this in mind, the decision to ban Red Bull's controversial engine mapping system before the race will be crucial, although Sebastian Vettel says he does not expect it to prove decisive. Elsewhere, Lotus are still hopeful of winning races, with Romain Grosjean keen to overturn his least competitive weekend of the year in Germany. And championship leader Fernando Alonso is not resting on his laurels despite his third win of the season.

In driver market news, Alonso's team-mate Felipe Massa has hinted he will leave F1 if he does not remain at Ferrari. And Force India's Nico Hulkenberg is not convinced he has done enough to stay with the team.

So there is still life here.

Judging by the qualifying, Hamilton is the favourite for the win by far. However, Grosjean, Vettel, Button and Räikkönen are in a great position to challenge him, and I would say that Lotus, as the race progresses, will be very strong. But make no mistake, Alonso is in great shape and even if he qualified only 6th, he's a great starter and he has every chance to win this one. Massa has also improved a lot and podium is possible for him. Also look out for Webber in 11th.

The biggest disappointment today was Mercedes, only 13th and 17th. Awful.

I think Grosjean and Vettel are really the only guys who can challenge Hamilton, although I'm not convinced by the Red Bull's pace in long stints. I think Raikkonen and Alonso are just too far back to have any effect on the outcome of the race.
